The EHSS Manager (Environment, Health, Safety, & Security) is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, safety, and security programs at the Newark, NJ facility to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvement, ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, and lead initiatives to achieve sustainability goals. This role reports to the Director, EHSS. 

 

This position is for an on-site role in Newark, NJ, with typical hours between 6 AM- 3 PM, 7 AM-4 PM, or 8 AM-5 PM EST Monday - Friday, based on business needs. This role may require occasional travel to other company sites for audits/inspections. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all EHSS-related company policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DEP, NFPA), serving as the site subject matter expert and primary liaison with regulatory agencies.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements, maintain knowledge of emerging regulations and industry best practices, and communicate compliance obligations to site leadership.
  • Manage regulatory inspections, audits, and agency interactions, including coordinating communications, negotiating corrective actions, and ensuring timely closure of findings.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHSS policies, programs, procedures, and site-specific audit and inspection processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments and industrial hygiene evaluations; identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk.
  • Support management of process changes, facility modifications, and new equipment installations to ensure EHSS requirements are incorporated during design and implementation.
  • Lead EHSS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, including training needs assessments, training delivery, maintenance of training matrices, and learning management systems.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by supporting safety committees, employee engagement initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration with operational leadership.
  • Lead investigations of incidents, injuries, spills, near misses, and other loss events; perform root cause analysis and develop, track, and verify corrective action plans.
  • Maintain EHSS management systems and records, including safety reports, incident documentation, training records, SDS management, and corporate reporting platforms.
  • Track, analyze, and report EHSS performance metrics (e.g., TRIR, DART, environmental and sustainability metrics), providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Lead EHSS projects and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, environmental performance, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage environmental compliance programs and reporting requirements, including permits, stormwater, SPCC, TRI, Tier II, air emissions, pollution prevention, and other regulatory obligations.
  • Identify, implement, and support sustainability initiatives focused on waste reduction, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and corporate ESG goals.
  • Collaborate with corporate EHSS and sustainability teams, as well as manufacturing and distribution leadership, to drive standardization and best practices.
  • Ensure contractor and vendor compliance with EHSS requirements through qualification, monitoring, and performance evaluation programs.
  • Oversee site security-related programs, including facility security audits, camera systems, access control, and badge administration.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports required for internal leadership review, corporate systems, and regulatory submissions.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field. 
  • Master's degree or relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM, NEBOSH, LEED).
  • ​Minimum of 5-10 years of safety, environmental, engineering or related experience in a manufacturing, distribution and or R&D center environment.  
  • ​Safety related professional certifications e.g. CSP, CIH, preferred.​​ 
  • ​Successful experience leading projects and teams or committees is a must. 
  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local regulations and requirements. 
  • ​Highly collaborative spirit with strong team and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization. 
  • ​Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • ​Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or other software. 
  • ​Flexibility to work outside of normal or routine work hours – if needed or as required.

Physical Requirements 

  • ​​​Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer  
  • ​Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. occasionally (e.g. files, boxes of documents)  
  • ​Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.  
  • ​Visual activity required for reviewing documents, spreadsheets, and computer screens.  
  • ​Occasional standing, walking, and reaching within combination of office and field (manufacturing floor, site, etc.) environment.  
  • ​Ability to travel occasionally for audits, training or compliance-related meetings as needed. ​​ 

Pay Range

USD $105,200.00 - USD $134,600.00 /Yr.
