Benjamin Moore & Co., a Berkshire Hathaway company, is a leading manufacturer of innovative, high-quality coatings for the architectural and industrial maintenance markets. We are currently seeking a Polymer Scientist II to join our Technology and Innovation team.

In this role, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists in developing polymer and polymer technology for new and next generation products. You will apply your expertise in analytical thinking, innovation, and creative problem solving to explore and demonstrate the feasibility of new product chemistries. This position offers great opportunities for growth and development into higher technical or managerial roles.

Reporting to a R&D Group Manager, the Scientist II job is an exciting chance to join a team that promotes and recognizes innovation. We are seeking motivated individuals who will produce world-class products and add to the skillset of an already successful Technology and Innovation team.

Responsibilities

  • Search new polymer and coatings technologies, capture technology trends and developments in broad industries, identify the technologies for R&D teams.
  • Explore and prove feasibility of novel polymer chemistries.
  • Plan, develop, and implement scientifically designed experiments from concepts to product commercialization.
  • Develop new polymers throughout all stages of product development, from laboratory synthesis to production scale-ups.
  • Collaborate with Procurement for identifying and evaluating new and alternate materials.
  • Maintain understanding of the competitive and supplier IP landscapes, analyze industry trends and emerging technologies, identify potential opportunities for intellectual property.
  • Supervises 1-3 direct reports with the ability to develop personal growth opportunities, while managing multiple projects for organizational growth. Manage and train junior chemists.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. with 0-5 years working experience in chemistry, material science or related fields; MS with 5+ years; BS with 8+ years.
  • Have knowledge and expertise in emulsion polymers and waterborne polymers.
  • Possess strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, utilizing scientific and analytical tools in polymer development.
  • Exhibit the ability to develop and commercialize products from initial concepts.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter, capable of working independently and driving projects to completion.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey scientific concepts and project status clearly and candidly, effectively fostering collaborative relationships at all organizational levels.
